Gatefosse was working in his lab of perfumery when he suddenly, but severely,
burnt his hand. The chemist sunk his burnt hand into the nearest bowl of liquid,
the substance happened to be the essential oil of lavender. Luckily for
Gatefosse the healing and antiseptic qualities of the pure lavender oil was much
greater than any other substances available to him at that time, and his badly
damaged hand healed with abnormal speed and practically no scarring. This 70
year old accident proves that aromatherapy is one of the most important
