Zinc Balance 15 is a synergistic combination of OptiZinc™ brand Zinc Monomethionate and Copper Gluconate in a 15:1 zinc/copper ratio because supplementing zinc without copper may cause copper deficiency.

The amino acid Methionine is a Low Molecular Weight Binding Ligand proven to facilitate absorption and transport of zinc in the human body. Optizinc™ has been shown to resist absorption interference from fiber and phytic acid.

Recent research has indicated that excess supplementation of Zinc (including 25 mg amounts) on a regular basis negatively affects immunofunction. 15 mg of zinc daily is considered to be the safe usage strength.

The mineral zinc is one of our great underrated supplements.  First, it's dirt-cheap.  Second, it has a dozen or so side benefits (wound healing, acne, prostate, hyperactivity, mercury toxicity, etc.) in addition to the immune stuff. 
 
Zinc can be used in low doses (30-60 mg daily) as a general cold and flu preventative, and in higher doses (150-200 mg daily) when you're fighting something off.  Just make sure to take it with food, as zinc can make you nauseous on an empty stomach.
 
One of the good things zinc does is displace heavy metals (mercury, cadmium, lead) from the body.  But it will also displace copper.  Take too much zinc for too long and we become copper-deficient.  That's why you shouldn't use the acute high doses of 150-200 mg a day for more than a week.
