Gaia Herbs Turmeric Supreme combines two unique extraction techniques to create a whole-plant standardized extract representing the most complete Turmeric supplement available today. HISTORY Turmeric is one of the most widely used herbs in the east and has been used extensively in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. In fact, at the time of this writing, the United States National Institutes of Health are conducting 4 clinical trials using Turmeric for pancreatic cancer, multiple myeloma, Alzheimer's, and colorectal cancer. Although, no conclusions have been published the degree of interest within the medical community is apparent.* Most researchers agree that the basic mechanism of action within Turmeric is its potent antioxidant action. Curcuminoids seem to scavenge for damaging particles in the body known as "free-radicals". Although free radicals are a normal by-product of our metabolism, in excess amounts they can negatively alter cell membranes and even cause cell death. Free-radicals can lead to severe health challenges downstream and have been studied for their impact on everything from arthritis, inflammation, heart disease to cancer. Researchers worldwide have recognized Turmeric as one of the most potent free-radical quenchers available in the plant world.*
